 Our Mission:

The American Center for Sustainability will nurture Humankind's shift toward more sustainable living practices by creating and managing original projects while supporting and linking other like-minded organizations and their efforts.

 Our Vision:

We are shifting the "American Dream" into a Sustainable Reality through guided learning expeditions. Our center is a common ideological ground. By engaging in collaborative community land, water, air, and life stewardship projects we honor sustainable innovations and traditions of the many cultures of the Americas. These initiatives are intended to educate and inspire ourselves and future generations about our inherent ability to create and maintain thriving livelihoods in balance with the rest of the natural world.

We recognize that the earth's natural resources are precious and finite and we dedicate our consciousness toward taking action to reduce the impact of human consumption. We believe healthy soil, air and water are required to produce healthy food for a strong body, mind and spirit. We seek to facilitate equal access to this natural ability for all people. We embrace challenges as nature's way of strengthening our sustainability. We consider the Earth our classroom upon which we must strive to nourish ourselves and others for an optimal learning adventure and we are dedicated to paying forward that which we are taught. We value family and we will act in the best known interest of our future generations.

We respect ourselves, others, and all things natural in the Universe.

 Our Current Program Activities:

The ACS Plant Project is working to spur the development of a more sustainable local food web. We provide free seedlings to non-profit garden projects across Oregon. We have successfully distributed over 100,000 free seedlings since 2007. For Spring 2010, we have approximately 46,000 seedlings in germination awaiting distribution to more than 100 garden sites.

The ACS Preservation Garden is a service and research endeavor on a neighborhood lot in SW Portland. The garden inspires people to become active participants in their access to nutritious food year round by utilizing the skills of intensive urban farming and time-honored preservation practices.
